The arithmetic behind an ad dashboard — what each abbreviation divides by what, which direction is good, and the one calculation that tells you whether a campaign with a positive return is quietly losing money.
CPM is cost per mille — cost per thousand impressions. It is the standard way to price awareness advertising, where the goal is to be seen rather than clicked, and it is the number to compare when what you are buying is reach. Note what it prices: delivery, not attention. An impression counts whether or not anybody actually looked.
