Words as arrows

Turn words into arrows, find which ones mean alike, work out king − man + woman, build your own analogy, and count the company a word keeps until its numbers fall out.

Briefing

A computer cannot compare two words, only two lists of numbers. Your job is to give words numbers that make sense: you place them on a map, find which ones point the same way, and do arithmetic with meanings until king − man + woman lands on queen.

You'll learn to

  • Read a word's numbers as its position on a map
  • Tell which words are alike by the angle between their arrows, not the distance
  • Carry a relationship from one word to another with a − b + c
  • Build a word's numbers by counting the words around it

  3. Your own analogy

Carry a relationship to a new word
